MARSHALL GOLD DISCOVERY PARK PROJECT

Pioneer Decedents of El Dorado County, 1883 - 1895

In 2019, EDHGS members volunteered for another project at the Library and Research Room at the Marshall Gold Discovery Park in Coloma, California. The objective was to identify 1883-1895 decedents recorded in the official, handwritten journal of Francis Newton ("F.N.") Spencer, the El Dorado County Administrator/Coroner at the time. Many of these people were early pioneers and lived in El Dorado County during the Gold Rush. The research effort required another transcription of F.N. Spencer's journal, followed by collateral research into the 69 deceased individuals recorded within it. The findings include a full research report, along with detailed MS Excel files detailing the individuals, and, when available, the circumstances around their deaths and estates (date, place, nativity, etc.):
