MEMBERSHIP FAQ

What is the El Dorado Hills Genealogical Society (EDHGS)?

EDHGS is a non-profit, charitable and social organization (501(c)3 corporation) where people meet to discuss their family trees, genealogical finds, and pursue the study of kinship. Even though we are based in El Dorado Hills, California, our members research ancestors from all over the world.

Who can join EDHGS?

Anyone can join,18 years or older. Members do not need to live in El Dorado Hills or the "Western Slope" of El Dorado County, California, although it helps greatly if you want to attend our in-person workshops, meetings, or community events.

What are the benefits of EDHGS Membership?

  • Live, online Zoom presentations monthly from professional speakers
  • Access and participation in our monthly research workshops - bring your "brick walls" to solve!
  • FREE online access to AmericanAncestors.org, a subscription genealogical research database
  • Personalized help and assistance with research from our EDHGS Education Committee members
  • Access to the Members-Only section of our website
  • Access to the Members-Only EDHGS Facebook Page
  • Hanging out with a bunch of kind, energetic folks who love genealogy as much as you!

Are dues required for membership?

Yes. Annual membership dues start at $30 for an individual. EDHGS also offers two-person and family discounts, along with other memberships. EDHGS membership runs the calendar year, January through December. Annual dues are due at the end of January.

Can I attend presentations, meetings, or workshops without becoming a member?

Yes. Try before you buy! You can attend three presentations, meetings, or workshops to check us out. It's our job to convince you it's worthwhile to join us as a member.

Are memberships prorated or partial?

Neither. But if you join after August 1, your EDHGS membership will carry over through the next year.

How do I attend an online EDHGS Zoom presentation and meeting?

All presentations and meetings are presently held online through Zoom, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, January-October, from 6PM-8PM. Just email the EDHGS Secretary at [email protected] and you'll be sent the information with the Zoom link. Check our online calendar for dates and details.

How do I attend an EDHGS in-person, research workshop?

All genealogical research workshops are held in-person in the El Dorado Hills Library Community Room on the 4th Tuesday of the month, January-October, from 6PM-8PM. If you can, email the EDHGS Secretary at [email protected] beforehand and we'll prepare for your arrival. Or, simply drop on by! Everyone is welcome. Check our online calendar for dates and details.

Anything else I should know about the EDHGS ?
