You don't need to RSVP for Genealogy Day and can simply drop-in; however, if you send us a simple, "I'm Going" email using our handy-dandy RSVP Button, your response will help us determine how many people might attend, so we can prepare and plan accordingly. Your email address and any accompanying personal information will not be shared with anyone outside the EDHGS.

THUMB THING TO BRING WITH YOU
|
THUMB DRIVE: Bring a USB Thumb Drive! Any storage capacity is fine, USB 2.0 or USB-C. It does not have to be large size (32 GB is more than enough). If our researchers find digitized records corresponding to your ancestors, they'll save them for you on your USB portable storage drive so you can take them home with you.

GENEALOGY DAY FAQ
What is Genealogy Day?
The EDHGS’ Genealogy Day on Jun. 20, 2026, is a completely FREE public event, designed to raise awareness about genealogy and the study of kinship, the El Dorado Hills Genealogical Society, and to connect with our community to provide free genealogical research help and genealogy resources to use from home.
What happens at Genealogy Day?
We'll first ask you to fill out a very short, one-page questionnaire, asking for a specific research question. The PDF questionnaire is available online HERE or you can download it from the link near the top of this page (other helpful documents are provided for download, too, if you need them). You can either complete the questionnaire beforehand and bring it with you, or complete it the day-of at the Library. In the Community Room, we'll connect you with a dedicated EDHGS researcher for a personalized, one-on-one online genealogy research session. Our researcher will focus on your specific research question, so try to describe your family mystery, ancestral unknown, or your genealogy "brick wall" - really any lingering question related to kinship. Using online databases and archives, our researcher will work with you to find answers to your genealogical question, point you in recommended directions, and provide you with a Genealogy Starter Packet you can take home with you.
Who can attend?
Anyone and everyone. You do not need to have any genealogical research experience whatsoever, and you do not need to be a resident of El Dorado Hills, El Dorado County, or even the State of California. Or the U.S. You should, however, be an earthling. Everyone is welcome to attend, from novice to experienced terrestrial genealogists. However, juveniles (under 18 years of age) will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
How do I attend?
Just drop into the El Dorado Hills Library Community Room, from Noon - 4PM on Jun. 20th and bring your genealogy question(s) (and questionnaire and pedigree chart, if you pre-filled them) with you. If you prefer, email RSVP ahead at [email protected] if your particular genealogical obstacle is complex or unusual, our researchers will prepare beforehand for your research problem. Otherwise, just come on in and we'll do our best to assist you with researching your family history. If you don't have a specific question and just want general advice on how to do your own genealogy research, we can help you with that, too. *Bring a USB thumb drive with your so your researcher can save digitized records on it for you!
What doesn't happen at Genealogy Day?
We generally don't research living people. Genealogy is fairly macabre, and mostly focused on the study of kinship to deceased ancestors - so we usually don't research living people. Also, some genealogy questions by their nature are difficult to research online in a limited session (i.e.; DNA, parentage questions, adoption, non-English records needing translation). If our researcher can't help you during your time with us, though, we'll do our best to recommend other research avenues to pursue.
I Googled National Genealogy Day and saw it falls on the second Saturday in March. Why is EDHGS having a Genealogy Day in June?
No good excuse. We simply chose to do it too late and ran out of time. We just decided to present it anyway this summer, regardless of the official national date. And, every day is pretty much "Genealogy Day," as far as our members are concerned :)
What is the origin of EDHGS' Genealogy Day?
Back in 2019, EDHGS' Board of Directors, led by our President and good friend, the late Afton Tuveson, pitched the creative idea to our membership. With unanimous support, we had our first Genealogy Day on Saturday, Mar. 9, 2019 and met with dozens of inquisitive, kind people, helping them explore their family histories and learn how to uncover genealogical facts on their own. It was very successful and great fun for everyone, especially our own volunteers. Sadly, COVID derailed 2020's Genealogy Day and this year is our first year back since 2019. We hope 2026's Genealogy Day will be just as fun and rewarding.
I have more questions.
Understood. If you have specific questions about Genealogy Day, EDHGS in general, the El Dorado Hills Library, or what the current temperature is on Mars, you can email [email protected]. For Mars weather, though, go HERE.
